Samaj Kalyan Foundation is working on cluster development activities for coir sector . After gaining experience in cluster development activities, the Chief executive of SKF has initiated cluster based approach for the rural folk for strengthening their livelihoods. The Chief Executive, Mr. Kasinath Jena is a trained Cluster Development executive undergone training by Coir Board under SFURTI programme. He has executed the cluster development work in coir sector in Sakhigopal cluster that includes sensitization of the cluster stakeholders, entrepreneurs, artisans, Initiation of CFC, organizing skill development training, taking up exposure visits, banker’s meet etc. His experience has counted a lot to promote small enterprising clusters for different products through women SHGs. The organization is working in coir sector since last 8 years. It is implementing an income augmentation programme for Adolescent girls and women engaged in coir sector in Sakhigopal. They are formed into Self Help Groups and engaged in coir yarn, mat & mattings and handicraft items. Similarly, SKF has imparted coir handicraft making training to adolescent girls and women in 10 villages of Nimapada and Gop Blocks and they are now selling their items in Konark and Puri and also participating in different District level trade fairs, Rathayatra festival, Konark Dance Festival etc. Now SKF is in the process of undertaking SFURTI programme in collaboration with Coir Board, Kochi and Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India.
