Nutrition

Adequate nutrition is critical to child development. The period from birth to two years of age is important for optimal growth, health, and development. At this age, children are particularly vulnerable to growth retardation, micronutrient deficiencies and common childhood illness such as diarrhea and Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). Similarly, malnutrition in men and women can result in reduced productivity, slow recovery from illness, increased susceptibility to infections and a heightened risk of advance pregnancy outcomes. In this context, it is crucial thereof to sensitize and educate the community on the IYCF practices, basics of nutrition, malnutrition and its causes. Different front line stakeholders including the ASHAs and other health personnel have to play a significant role in the mother & child health issues as they regularly come in contact and interact with mothers and hence should acquire the basic knowledge and skills on the above subjects.
